TOKYO, Japan – October 29, 2004 –Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE) ), the global leader in semiconductor test systems, today announced that the U3751, a portable spectrum analyzer capable of measurement speeds twice that of its predecessor product, has gone on sale.
The U3751 is equally suitable for use on wireless communication device production lines and for field uses such as electromagnetic environment testing. Advantest will display it at the Microwave Expo, which is to be held November 11-13 at Pacifico Yokohama.
Today, networks are being built not only in offices, but also in commercial facilities, factories, schools, and a wide array of other locations. This has led to the widespread use of wireless LANs operating in the 5 GHz band and other high-frequency bands and the adoption of other wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth. With this increased demand, the major issue is how to achieve faster, cheaper measurements of wireless communication devices on mass production lines and at installation sites. In addition, manufacturers have been calling for more compact testing equipment to boost test efficiency on their production lines. Moreover, measuring instruments with superior mobility are needed for maintenance and testing of wireless communication devices in a variety of locations. This portable measuring instrument was developed to respond to these market demands.
The U3751 is capable of measuring frequencies in the 9 KHz to 8 GHz band at twice the speed of its predecessor product. This performance was realized by speeding up the calculation of power consumption averages and the measurement of the occupied frequency band, both of which are essential to wave analysis. This enabled tremendous improvements in throughput and cost-efficiency during cellular phone production testing and on wireless LAN module production lines.
Also, the U3751 has a compact, lightweight design with a casing only half the size of its predecessor product (R3132), an ideal weight and shape for field use. Its removable external battery allows for 2.5 hours of continuous operation. Whereas other products could not be used for 20 to 30 minutes after turning on the power, the U3751 can be operated within 5 minutes, making for a dramatic reduction of measurement times.
As a high-speed, portable spectrum analyzer, the U3751 offers best-in-class overall levels of accuracy (±0.8 dB/±1.0 dB). This was achieved by converting a major portion of the analytical processes (IF section) comprising the analog circuit to digital processes. Its highly reliable frequency measurements will contribute to improved yields on production lines as well as high-accuracy installation testing.
Fitted with a USB 1.1 port, LAN port, and GB-IB in its standard configuration, the U3751 can easily create and save measurement result files in its large-capacity USB memory and other data in a PC environment.
