On July 10th, 2010, the Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma Prefecture) held the 12th Science and Manual Arts Class. A total of 178 primary school children, their parents and volunteers from the neighborhood participated in this event.

The theme of the class this time was “Let's Work Together and Launch a Rocket!”, which was to create a PET-bottle rocket that flies by water and air pressure. After our employee explained the principles essential to rocket flight, those children, their parents and our company's volunteers worked together to make PET-bottle rockets.

After the rockets were completed, a PET-bottle rocket launch competition was held in our company's venue. The participants tried to figure out how their rockets could reach a long distance through trial and error and enjoyed the challenge of breaking the record.

The Science and Manual Arts Class has been enjoying a good reputation whenever it is offered. The Advantest Group will continue to offer the Science and Manual Arts Class in the future so that children will be able to learn the joy of making things and science, and that we will be able to facilitate the interaction with our local community.
