Advantest launches New Online Biotope Quarterly

Seasonal updates on the company's local conservation activities highlight Advantest's commitment to biodiversity

TOKYO, Japan – April 22, 2016 – Leading semiconductor test equipment supplier Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857) announced today that it has launched a new online publication, the Biotope Quarterly, showcasing its biodiversity and conservation activities around the company's R&D facility in Gunma Prefecture, Japan.

The word biotope comes from Greek "bio" (life) and "topos" (place), meaning a habitat for living creatures. Advantest's biotope is a nature preserve established in 2001 at the company's Gunma R&D Center, aiming to recreate the traditional rural landscape of the Kanto Plain. With an area of 17,000㎡, the biotope provides habitats for insects, birds, aquatic plants, trees and many other diverse flora and fauna, including near-threatened species. Advantest also invites elementary school students in neighborhood schools to participate in annual nature observation events at the biotope.

The new Biotope Quarterly will raise awareness of the rich biodiversity of the region, and promote conservation efforts, by highlighting the seasonal plants, insects and animals to be found in the biotope. The 1st issue, Winter 2016, features 13 species of migratory birds who visit the biotope in winter. Packed with stunning photographs, the publication will be of interest to conservationists, stakeholders, and the general public.
