The 16th Scientific Craft Workshop was held at the Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma-ken) on July 14th, 2012. The Scientific Craft Workshop is an event organized by our company's employees and alumni who volunteer to work together to offer children with hands-on experience in crafting and science. The theme of the Workshop this year was to make PET-bottle rockets, which had been a favorite topic of the children and had become the standard subject in this class.

A total of 164 primary school kids and their families from our neighboring communities participated in this Workshop and challenged to make their own PET-bottle rockets. A PET-bottle rocket does not fly well if the body is bent or warped. The children, having intent looks, cut the PET bottles and assembled the parts carefully, hoping that their rockets would fly and reach the farthest possible.

After completion, a competition of shooting the PET-bottle rockets was held on the premises of our company. The children, as well as their family members, broke into loud cheers when they saw their rockets shooting high up in the sky.

The Advantest Group will continue to work on offering the activities that can communicate the joy of crafting and science to children in the future.
