On October 18, Advantest America, Inc. (AAI) decided to purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) as part of its effort to offset 100 percent of CO2 generated by the electricity used in the office.

As a good corporate citizen, and to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, AAI acquired the certification of ISO14001 in 2008. To reinforce its environmental management system, AAI set up the targets that underpinned the business activities such as developing the environmental enhancement system, reducing waste and implementing the activities that could contribute to the environment. By focusing specifically on the worldwide, major issue of global warming, AAI has reduced the amount of energy usage, which is considered to be one of the causes for the global warming. AAI could successfully reduce the use of energy by 30% in two years from 2008 to 2009.

In order to increase its activities to prevent the global warming, AAI decided to purchase the renewable energy certificates over the next two years in 2011 and 2012. With this renewable energy certificates purchased by AAI, they will offset the amount of CO2 emissions, which is absorbed by a forest of more than 1,991, 000m2 (approximately 21,431,000ft2).

AAI will continue to utilize the renewable energy certificates, as well as working it out by itself, to promote the reduction of the amount of CO2 emissions in the future.
