On September 18th, fifty-six employees and their families of Advantest (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (ASP) joined the International Coastal Cleanup in Singapore.
This event, hosted by a marine protection organization called Ocean Conservancy, is held in 70 to 100 countries worldwide on the same day every year, and the participants of the event engage in the cleanup activities along their coastal and inland waterways. After marine debris collected by the volunteers is sorted out into different categories, the debris items are tracked back to be identified with their sources and used further in the study so that we can find out an effective way to protect water environment and reduce the amount of trash.
This year marked the fourth participation by ASP in this event. The participants from ASP picked up trash along the 400-meter coastline and collected the total of 13.50 kg, equivalent to three large trash bags, and 1,983 types of trash.
In conjunction with the coastal cleanup event, ASP also participated in the Charity Walk & Jog event for the first time. Blessed with fine weather, many participants, including runners, walkers and even small children, challenged the distance of 3 kilometers seriously with a lot of fun. The participants from ASP jogged through the distance of 189 kilometers in total, which was converted into the donation of 10.00 Singapore dollars.
ASP further provided a matching gift which matched the employees' contributions, and it successfully collected the donation in total of 4,890 Singapore dollars. This donation will be given to the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF), a private non-profit organization which supports children with cancer and their families.
After the concurrent activities of the environmental event and the charity event were over, the participants from ASP gave feedbacks and said, “I was very tired but was deeply touched,” and “It has become an unforgettable experience for me.”
