On September 12th, Advantest (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (ASP) participated in the International Coastal Cleanup 2009.
This year marks the third time for ASP to participate in the activities coordinated by a non-profit organization. This event aims to clean up the shorelines, lakes and waterways in 70-100 countries worldwide on the same day. By grouping and analyzing the collected trash and debris, we will be able to identify what the trash consists largely of and what the source of such trash would be. It will also help us studying and determining effective methods to reduce the amount of waste and protect our water environment.
On the day of the event, 26 employees and their 16 family members volunteered to participate in the cleanup activities, which took place on Pulau Ubin, an island situated in the northeast of mainland Singapore. Pulau Ubin is a region left with an abundance of nature, which allows rare kinds of plants and animals to make their habitat.
The volunteers sweated and helped each other under the sun and collected 91kg in total of 340 different kinds of trash and debris.
The children who participated in the event also had an opportunity to enjoy the nature by watching a variety of marine life and a mangrove forest.
We would like to continue our effort in providing our employees and their family members with a place to think about and act on our environment, as well as participating in any activities that would contribute to our community.
