The Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma-ken) offered a special science class at Meiwa Nishi Primary School, established by the Town of Meiwa, on January 22nd, 2013.

Although it's been pointed out that children are drifting away from science nowadays, Advantest has been conducting this activity since 2005 in the hope that we, as a manufacturer, can provide the children with an opportunity to become interested in science and technologies.

The objective of the class this time was to let the pupils learn the mechanism of an electric current through hands-on experience. 69 fifth-grade pupils from the same primary school challenged to make speakers. Although they struggled hard with the unfamiliar craftwork, our staffs' guidance helped all the pupils complete their own speakers successfully in the end.

The completed speakers were connected to the amplifier to be checked if the sound would come out of them or not. The pupils' faces beamed when their manually-built speakers did release sounds. The pupils became engrossed in listening to the speaker sounds throughout the rest of the hour.

By leveraging its core business, the Advantest Group will continue to provide the social contribution activities, including offering the science classes to intrigue children's intellectual curiosities and the seminars to introduce the latest science and technologies to school teachers.
